Ukrainian PM says Kiev tries to block Russia’s Nord Stream-2
KIEV, Jun 9 (PRIME) -- Kiev is taking political and legal measures to block Russia’s Nord Stream-2 natural gas pipeline project, Ukrainian Prime Minister Vladimir Groisman said in a news conference on Friday.
“I would like to assure you that Ukraine takes all political and legal measures to protect its national interests, including coordination of our efforts with other international partners in order to prevent construction of this political project that threats national security of not just Ukraine, but also of other states,” he said.
Nord Stream-2 envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom is implementing the project together with Engie, OMV, Royal Dutch Shell, Uniper and Wintershall.
Andrei Kobolev, CEO of Ukraine’s energy holding Naftogaz Ukrainy, said previously that Nord Stream-2 and Turkish Stream pipelines will deprive Ukraine of gas transit and slash the value of the country’s gas transportation system fivefold.
